Shenzhen Mangrove Conservation Foundation (Shenzhen)
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (UK)
The main objective of the exchange is to exchange good practice in wetland center operation and promote the Wetland Link International(WLI) network for global wetland conservation for people and wildlife, particularly in a Chinese context. The exchange provides on-site nature maintenance and management experience, networking opportunities and develops ideas for joint working between wetland centres. The whole process contributes to better understanding of how the wetland centre model, wetland ecosystem conservation and services can work together for a sustainable future.
About the Twinning organizations
The MCF focuses on coastal wetland (represented by mangroves) protection in the area of Shenzhen (where it is located). The organization was founded in 2012. Until today the Mangrove Conservation Foundation operates a wetland park and six education centers in Shenzhen, where they inform up to 40 000 people a year and promote coastal wetland protection and public awareness. The MCF is closely linked to several international partners who also engage in coastal protection.
The Wildfowl & Wetland Trust nowadays run ten wetland centres all over the UK. Their first site already was set up in 1946 in Gloucestershire at the banks of the river Severn. Today the organisation welcomes up to one million visitors a year. Their centres are different in size and character but they all carry out similar work, focusing on conservation, recreation, education and research of the wetlands. While their work started in the UK they now cooperate with partners all over the world for example in Hong Kong or Cambodia.
