MONDAY ON THE COUCH: China and Gender

Date: 14.10.2019    Time: 19:00 – 22:00

Location: iac Community Space, Linienstraße 65A, Berlin

Next year marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the “Beijing Platform for Action”. The Platform for Action imagines a world where each woman and girl can exercise her freedoms and choices, and realize all her rights, such as to live free from violence, to go to school, to participate in decisions and to earn equal pay for equal work.

But how close are we to meeting these goals? China’s Domestic Violence law, an effort put forward by Women’s rights NGOs, was enacted 20 years after the Beijing Platform was initially adopted. Only in 2012 did the European Parliament resolution on women and climate change clarify that women would be more affected by climate change. So, has the Beijing Platform paved the way for these achievements? Or is it pink-washing on a global governance scale? How do you bridge diverse cultural interpretations when working to realize women’s right on a global level?

Together with Isadora Cardoso, project coordinator at GenderCC – Women for Climate Justice in Berlin, and Cai Lingping, Executive Director of Health for All in Beijing, Joanna Klabisch of the China Program at Stiftung Asienhaus in Cologne will discuss Gender in light of current anti-feminism and transnational women’s rights movements.”

Monday on the Couch is a discussion format within the Bosch Alumni Network. One Monday each month, we are inviting experts from our network to the iac Community Space to discuss a current political or societal topic. After the discussion, there is time to continue the conversation over drinks. This Monday on the Couch is organized in cooperation with the China Program of the Stiftung Asienhaus. The session marks the kick-off of this year’s EU-China NGO Twinning Program Capacity Building and Reflection Week which will be concluded with an open event at the Representative Office of the Robert Bosch Foundation on October 18.

****Registration is necessary. To participate, please register here: https://www.boschalumni.net/events/24574

October Event: EU-China NGOs TALK

Date: 18.10.2019    Time: 14:00 – 20:00

Location: Repräsentanz der Robert Bosch Stiftung, Französische Straße 32, 10117 Berlin

Participants of the EU-China NGO Twinning Program, Workshop 2018

Every year, we organize two capacity building and reflection workshops as part of the EU-China NGO Twinning Program. The Twinning Program is an exchange program for the staff of European and Chinese NGOs not only for job shadowing and experience sharing among each other, but also with the public, local NGOs and also political stakeholders.

We cordially invite all interested parties to join the open day event on the 18th October.

The theme of this year’s conference day centers around climate change and its implications. Civil society needs to be involved not only in all areas from climate change and urbanization to trade agreements and sustainable livelihood. Civil society also needs to cooperate internationally in order to meet these global challenges. In light of this, we ask: How do civil society organizations work on social and environmental issues in Europe? How can their work be compared to working in China’s more restricted civil society landscape? What are the biggest obstacles to EU-China civil society cooperation? How do we fight climate change around the globe?

Our event shall offer you new and unique insights into the social implications of climate change and global value chains, and international civil society cooperation. There will be much room for your questions to our participants from various European countries and different Chinese provinces.

The participants of the EU-China NGO Twinning Program are experts in their respective fields and have been working in NGOs for several years. Our civil society talk will demonstrate the cooperative potential within the EU-China civil society landscape.
